Can you imagine what it would be like to attend a public concert in 18th century Madrid? What music was played, who performed it and what the musical atmosphere of the time was like? The Gran Soirée Orquestal will take you back in time with a unique and unrepeatable show.
In this concert you will be able to enjoy a varied and select repertoire, exactly as it was advertised in the Madrid press at the end of the 18th century, reflecting the tastes and musical practices of our fellow citizens of yesteryear. Works by Spanish and foreign composers such as Luigi Boccherini, Joseph Haydn and Luis Misón will be performed in the Symphonic Hall of the National Auditorium of Music, recreating one of the most popular and prestigious cultural events of the time: the public concert.
The public concert was a musical spectacle that depended on no other reason for gathering than the pleasure of listening to music, that sought to attract and entertain the public, and that was open to all kinds of audiences. In Madrid they began to be held in the reign of Carlos III, in the city's theatres, and usually lasted about two hours. The programme consisted of various musical pieces, which could be symphonies, concertos, arias, duets or trios, among other forms. The performers were professional musicians, both instrumentalists and singers, but often amateurs also performed.
To recreate this historical atmosphere, the concert will feature the participation of Os Músicos do Tejo, a group specialising in the performance of early music, directed by Marcos Magalhães, with the collaboration of various soloists, both vocal and instrumental, who will bring the works to life with their talent and expressiveness.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to enjoy music as the 18th century audience did.
